Filming Blog For Music Video

Image
Sadly, this will not be a filming blog. This will be a blog about why I was unable to film over  the break. To begin with, I would like to state that I had no idea my break was going to go how it went. I thought that my break was going to be a normal break at home. The first day of break was a casual evening. My mom and dad came home off of work around 3. My sister and I finished up school at around the same time. Then we went on to playing our games. That was until the next morning my Mom and Dad told us to bag our bags. My sister and I kept saying why ? What's happening ? Where are we going ? But, they wouldn't say. All they said was make sure it was packed by the morning. So, that morning my sister and I woke up completely unaware of what was going to happen next. It was a long road trip so we went to sleep at around the same time and when we woke up we see that we are at our grandmas house in Orlando. Which we rarely get to see nowadays due to covid-19.  One of the da...

Planning Storyboard For My Music Video

Image
This is my storyboard for my music video. Which is on "The Bigger Picture" written by Lil Baby. I  decided to start the first block of as "The Bigger Picture by Lil Baby." I chose to do this in the  beginning so that I would hopefully not get copyrighted. For the next box I decided what would be  myself. In the picture it's me with my "black lives matter" shirt on holding up my fist. In the next box it  would George Floyd. Which is the black man who lost his life in the hands of the police. He is also the  reason that this song was made as a response of his death. In the next slide you will see what is Derek  Chauvin the cop that murdered George Floyd. In the picture you see that his knee is against his neck  cutting of his circulation. In the next box you see "say their names" which basically is meant to grasp  the amount of the black people who have lost their life due to police brutality. Which leads to the next  box which is just 3 ...

Song Title:   "The Bigger Picture" by Lil Baby. (music video remix by Nicholas Smith)  Props:  Due to the circumstances of corona the main props that I will have is 4 poster boards. The first will say "no justice, no peace on it. The second one will say "end racism" on it. The third one will say "say their names" and will consists of some of the black lives that have been lost in the hand of the police. The last one will say "black lives matter" on it.  Costumes:  I will buy a t-shirt from amazon that says "black lives matter" on it with a fist on it. I will wear this in all 4 clips of my music video. Depending of my budget I may be able to purchase a mask or wristband to go along with the shirt. Schedule:  My commercial will have 4 takes at the same time on different days. They will each consist of the same clothing but different poster boards. They will all be taken at 4 o'clock to relate to the actual music video as the sun...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
For my music video I have chosen to do "The Bigger Picture." Which is written by artist  Dominique Jones aka Lil Baby. This song was made as response of the killing of George  Floyd. George Floyd was a black man who lost his life in the hands of police officer Derek  Chauvin. On May 25, 202 police officer Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd has he held  his  knee against his neck applying the upmost pressure. As George Floyd repeatedly cried  out "I can't breathe" the officer did not tense up. Later resulting in the tragic death. Among  many of the black lives that have been lost in the hand of the people that are suppose to  "protect." George Floyd was big as it many people across the world white and black. "The  Bigger Picture" was released on June 12, 2020. Today the music video hold 95 millions views. Catching the eye of almost the entire world this song was voted the most iconic of  the year. In the music video you can see "Lil ...

Introduction To The Music Video Project

Image
Good afternoon, my name is Nicholas Smith. Today, I was given the opportunity to create a music video project. Given to me by lovely teachers Mr. Katz and Ms. Marchionne. Through the AICE MEDIA department. This will be my second project given to me and I can't wait. For this project I've  decided to work on it by myself. Due to the current circumstances I have chosen to do this project  alone. I don't want to interfere with others resulting with risk of the life of myself and others. I believe  that doing this project alone is the safest option. For my project, I have decided to do "The Bigger  Picture." Which was made by Lil Baby an artist from Atlanta, Georgia. "The Bigger Picture" was the  in fact voted the most iconic song of the year. I decided to do this song as it speaks on the behalf of the  "black lives matter" movement. This song was created as a  reaction of the "George Floyd" killing.  George Floyd was 46 years old when he...

Critical Reflection Questions

Image
1. How does your product use or challenge convention AND how does represent social groups or issues? Throughout my commercial, I included 4 different clips of me on the skateboard. Two of which is me doing a trick. The other two standing on the skateboard representing the Vans. My commercial would attract other skateboarders. This means social groups that skate would like my commercial on Vans.   2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be disturbed as a real media text? Throughout my commercial, I played a sound called "skate." Which is a sound that I found of an app called TikTok. My reasoning for that is so that the audience does not drift off or get bored watching my commercial. They are human just like me and I know what its like to experience a thirty second commercial that isn't intriguing. I tend to do something else like go on my phone so I included this sound hoping that the audience would be more engaged to the video. Also, which is why I...

VANS Commercial

Image
The video above is the final product for commercial Vans. In this blog I will be talking about my experience while doing this commercial before and after. Going into to this commercial it was a lot of choices that I could choose from. I decided to go with Vans because I felt that would be the least common commercial that the student would pick from. I personally have always been the person or student that likes to be an outcast. Which is basically just different from the rest. I will admit there was many times that I wanted to quit creating the commercial for Vans. I almost switched my commercial idea to Nike. But, I felt that it was my calling to do Vans somehow. So I decided to continue out with the idea. During the project was the most exciting for me. The whole fact that I would making a blog and a commercial was just overwhelming. One thing I could say I liked about this project is the creativity and imagination it allows. There was no script unlike many cl...

Editing Process

Image
For the editing on my Vans commercial I used a editing software called "iMovie." This is a platform that is allowed on iPhones. This app has many different features. Some of these features that include adding text, cutting and splitting of clips, and transition in between clips etc. The app is very user friendly nothing was to hard or complex. Although, there is a premium edition that you have to pay for the free edition does its purpose. So with that being said I am going to go through step by step of my editing process for my film. To begin with I want to say that for every clip I made two parts. The first part being my all white & black attire with the checkerboard vans. The second part being my all red & white attire with my checkerboard Vans. I started the video with the sun then I went down showing me sitting there in the black & white Vans, Then in between the camera going around the Vans it goes into my red & white Vans. Going back into the black and ...

Filming Process

Image
For my Vans commercial the filming process went quite easily. I am going to explain step by step how the filming process went. To begin with, I had to make sure the setting was right. This meaning the area and the weather. It was raining for most of the weekend so luckily on Sunday I was able to start my film. This was also important because I wanted the video to start of with a sunset. Although I wasn't able to capture the sunset I was still able to capture the beautiful setting of the sun that day. After that I was able to gather my clothing. I wore two sets of the clothing in the film. The first being a black & white hat, a plain white T-shirt, khaki shorts, and my black & white checkerboard Vans. The second being a red & white visor, the same plain white T-shirts, the same khaki shorts, and my red & white checkerboard Vans. The purpose of this is so that the audience can see right of the bat what is being advertised to them. In many commercials people are ...
