Genre Research: Drama and Thriller
I have chosen to do Drama and Thriller for my second and third genre research.
Drama -
To begin with, there are many different components to creating what is known as Drama. Drama is otherwise known as a "roller coaster." This is because you go through an unexpected series of events that could be exciting or emotional. There are several different lightings in Drama such as lowkey, side, hard, and cinematic lighting. Also, angles: medium, over-the-shoulder, close-up, and extreme close-up. The common movements that are seen in Drama films are hand-held, horizontal, and vertical. There are 3 components to create the mis-en-scene in Drama. These are costumes, props, and settings. There is normal clothing in Drama to make the scene look as realistic as possible. Props can include cars, cellphones, houses, or food. The usual settings of Drama are made to look realistic to portray real-life situations.
Thriller -
Just like Drama, there are many different components to creating a Thriller film. Through research, I have been able to figure out each component. These components include lighting, angles, movements, sounds, and mis-en-scene. The different types of lightings are low-key, back, and under. The different types of angles include high, close-up, tilted, long shot, low, hand-held, point of view (POV), and over the shoulder. The different types of movements are tracking which is used to follow a character's action as it builds suspense. The different types of sounds include high-pitched: violins and string percussion, low-pitched string percussion, fast-paced music, and slow piano. Just like Drama, there are 3 components to create the mis-en-scene in Thriller. These are costumes, props, and settings. The costumes are divided into two different sides which are the antagonist and the protagonist. The antagonist is usually seen in more dark clothing while the protagonist is seen in brighter clothing. Props such as weapons are used to create tension between the characters. The setting is in a secluded location.
